This is to inform all BUP colleagues about the current situation for the Baltic University Programme (BUP) as an organisation in light of the war in Ukraine. The BUP strongly condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and offers our wholeheartedly support to those colleagues and students most affected by the war.

The latest week the BUP board and the coordinating secretariat have waited for clear directives from Uppsala University and the Swedish government on how our cooperation within the BUP can continue. We had to get clear directives since the BUP is a government assignment at Uppsala University.

On April 1, 2022, a meeting of the Academic Council of the University took place.

The Rector of the University, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Professor Volodymyr ZAGORSKY reported on the activities of the University during the martial law.

The rector of the university thanked the staff for the coordinated work and noted that the university administration has taken all possible measures to ensure the functioning of the university during the legal regime of martial law:

- holidays from February 28 to March 21, 2022 were announced for students, and appropriate changes were made to the schedule of the educational process;

- measures have been taken to ensure the protection of participants in the educational process of employees and property of the university;

- a shelter was prepared for the evacuation of participants in the educational process and university staff;

- established round-the-clock duty of management staff to maintain the functioning of the university in a special period;

- a self-defense unit of the university was formed to strengthen the protection of its objects and property, as well as to prevent acts of sabotage.

Rector of the University, Professor Zagorsky offered to help our heroic soldiers financially – to raise funds from the university staff and transfer them to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Employees of the University and the Technological College collected and sent medicines, food, made money transfers to bank accounts to purchase the necessary military ammunition. A number of staff members have provided assistance to military units in which their colleagues are defending our country from the Russian occupiers. Extremely important work is carried out by the staff of our university in the framework of volunteering activities, which have established the provision of significant humanitarian assistance to foreign partners: Romania; Germany; Switzerland; Poland.

The rector informed that the university had received more than 50 letters of support and solidarity from foreign colleagues and friends, in which they expressed concern and condemned the act of aggression of the Russian Federation.

From March 21 at the university in a tense rhythm the educational process in a remote mode proceeds.

The first vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work, Professor Mykola ADAMOVSKY reported on the organization and conduct of the educational process in the spring semester and the end of the 2021/2022 academic year.

The university gives the opportunity to provide educational services to higher educational students were forced to move from areas of active hostilities.

. An official page has been created on the website of the university, where applicants can apply for consultations and fill in the registration form for the opportunity to study at the university.

Executive Secretary of the Admission Committee, Associate Professor Mykhailo BURDYAK reported on the career guidance work of the university staff and internal academic mobility for higher education students from areas of active hostilities.

Vice-rector for scientific work, Professor Vasyl LAVNY reported on the work for 2021 of specialized scientific councils of the university:

The Academic Council of the University also approved a number of legal documents of the university, and recommended the publication of several manuscripts.

In the battle for Ukraine with the Russian occupiers on April 1, 2022 in Luhansk region the Associate Professor of sawmilling, carpentry and wood construction, PhD Yuriy DADAK was killed. He was a famous poet, public figure and founder of the literary and educational project (poetic pseudo – Yuriy Ruf).

On the first day of the large-scale war, Yuriy joined the 24th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Yuriy DADAK was born on September 26, 1980 in Brzezany, Ternopil Region. He grew up in Lviv. He completed his general education in 1997 at Lviv Lyceum №93, and higher education at Ukrainian National Forestry University in 2002 with a degree in Woodworking Technology, obtaining the qualification of engineer-technologist. After graduating from the university, in 2008 he defended his dissertation thesis on "Improving the efficiency of dust collection in the processing of wood and wood materials" for the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences in specialty 05.23.06 Technology of woodworking, furniture and wood products. He graduated from the doctoral program, worked on completing his doctoral dissertation.

Since 2011 he has been an Associate Professor of the Department of Sawmilling Technologies, Joinery and Wooden Construction Products of Ukrainian National Forestry University. In his scientific work he focused on the development of scientifically sound standards for wood consumption in wooden houses, the scientific basis of capture and separation of waste in the processes of mechanical wood processing, effective processes of cleaning emissions of woodworking enterprises from wood dust.

From 2008 to 2014 he was a Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Technology for Academic Affairs (now – Educational and Scientific Institute of Woodworking and Computer Technology and Design). At a high scientific and methodological level he taught disciplines for students of the institute.

Yuriy Dadak carried out active educational and public activities. In 2010 he initiated the creation of the competition "Actual Patriotic Art" at the University (since 2015 - the Festival "Actual Patriotic Art"), which was actively attended first by students of design, and later by other students of the university. In 2015, Yuriy Dadak founded the NGO "Literary and Educational Project "Spirit of the Nation". He was a regular host of the Cold Yar Festival of the Unconquered Nation.

Yuriy began writing poetry at the age of 14. He chose the pseudonym "Yuriy Ruf" in 2011, when the collection "Crimson Lyrics" was being prepared for publication. He considered his poetry one of the types of poetic propaganda of patriotism, in which UKRAINE AND UKRAINIANS are glorified as a proud STATE AND NATION. He was one of the artists whose work promoted patriotic education, increased morale, motivated and sharpened the sense of national dignity.

During the poet's lifetime, a number of collections of his poems were published, including: "Crimson lyrics" (2012), "Time of the Revolution" (2014), "At the turn of the ages" (2015), "Vanilla or steel?!" (2022). Yuriy's poems were also included in the Ukrainian contemporary nationalist poetry collections “Voice of Blood” (2013) and “Echoes of Lead Thunder” (2015).

In particular, the collection "At the turn of the ages" (2015) is dedicated to Ukrainian heroes of the current Russian-Ukrainian war and contains poems that mention individuals, military units, Ukrainian soldiers, battles and other military events.

Yuriy Dadak's last post appeared on his Facebook page on March 19, a poem from the front line. He always glorified Ukrainian victories in his poetry, was a popularizer of everything Ukrainian and said: "Ukraine is above all."

The staff of Ukrainian National Forestry University expresses its deepest condolences his family.

Yuriy Dadak died as a HERO who defended his native Ukrainian land until his last breath.

The memory of this BRIGHT MAN, the faithful son of Ukraine will live in the hearts of everyone who knew him, as well as in his patriotic poems.

On March 15, 2022, the staff of the Ukrainian National Forestry University transferred 425,000 UAH to the account of the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Western Region (Lviv) for financial support of wounded soldiers and victims of the International Peacekeeping and Security Center.

Employees of the University and the Technological College provided assistance to the 24th separate mechanized brigade named after King Daniel, as well as soldiers from our team who are defending our country from the Russian aggressor on the front line. Medicines and foodstuffs were collected and sent, and money transfers were made to bank accounts to purchase the necessary military ammunition.

Our donations are a contribution to the great Victory of the Ukrainian people!

У бою за Україну з російськими окупантами 1 квітня 2022 року на Луганщині загинув доцент кафедри технологій лісопиляння, столярних і дерев’яних будівельних виробів, кандидат технічних наук Юрій Романович ДАДАК, відомий поет, громадський діяч та засновник літературно-просвітницького проєкту “Дух Нації’ (поетичне псевдо – Юрій Руф).

У перший же день широкомасштабної війни Юрій Романович вступив до лав 24 окремої механізованої бригади Збройних Сил України.

Юрій ДАДАК народився 26 вересня 1980 року в Бережанах на Тернопільщині. Виростав у Львові.

Повну загальну освіту здобув у 1997 році в Львівському ліцеї №93, а вищу – у Національному лісотехнічному університеті України у 2002 році за спеціальністю “Технологія деревообробки”, здобувши кваліфікацію інженера-технолога.

Після завершення аспірантури Національного лісотехнічного університету України, у 2008 році захистив дисертацію на тему “Підвищення ефективності пиловловлення в процесах оброблення деревини та деревинних матеріалів” на здобуття наукового ступеня кандидата технічних наук за спеціальністю 05.23.06 Технологія деревообробки, виготовлення меблів та виробів з деревини. Закінчив докторантуру Національного лісотехнічного університету України, працював над завершенням докторської дисертації.

З 2011 року обіймав посаду доцента кафедри технологій лісопиляння, столярних і дерев’яних будівельних виробів Національного лісотехнічного університету України. У своїй науковій діяльності працював над розробленням науково обґрунтованих нормативів витрат деревини у дерев’яному домобудуванні, наукових основ вловлювання та сепарування відходів у процесах механічного оброблення деревини, ефективних процесів очищення викидів деревообробних підприємств від деревного пилу.

З 2008 до 2014 року – заступник декана технологічного факультету з навчальної роботи (нині – Навчально-науковий інститут деревообробних та комп’ютерних технологій і дизайну). На високому науково-методичному рівні викладав навчальні дисципліни для студентів інституту.

Юрій Дадак провадив активну виховну, просвітницьку та громадську діяльність. У 2010 році – ініціатор створення в університеті конкурсу “Актуальне патріотичне мистецтво” (з 2015 року – Фестиваль “Актуальне патріотичне мистецтво”), у якому брали активну участь спочатку студенти-дизайнери, а пізніше й інші студенти університету. У 2015 році Юрій Дадак заснував Громадську організацію “Літературно-просвітницький проєкт “Дух нації”. Він був постійним ведучим Фестивалю нескореної нації “Холодний Яр”.

Юрій почав писати вірші з 14 років. Вибрав собі псевдонім “Юрій Руф” у 2011 році, коли готувалася до друку збірка “Багряна лірика”. Вважав свою поезію одним з видів поетичної пропаганди патріотизму, в якій УКРАЇНА ТА УКРАЇНЦІ прославлені як горда ДЕРЖАВА ТА НАЦІЯ.

Поціновувачі його творчості охрестили роботи Юрія Руфа поезією війни, описуючи її як “лінійку лінії фронту”, тобто поезію війни й патріотизму. Він був тим із митців, чия творчість сприяла патріотичному вихованню, підвищенню бойового духу, мотивувала та загострювала почуття національної гідності.

За життя поета друком вийшла низка збірок його віршів, серед яких: “Багряна лірика” (2012), “Час Революції” (2014), “На зламі епох” (2015), “Ваніль чи сталь?!” (2022). Вірші Юрія увійшли також до українських сучасних націоналістичних поетичних збірок “Голос крові” (2013) і “Відлуння свинцевих громовиць” (2015).

Зокрема, збірка “На зламі епох” (2015) присвячена українським героям нинішньої російсько-української війни і містить вірші, що згадують окремих осіб, військові частини, українських воїнів, боїв та інших воєнних подій.

Останній допис Юрія Дадака з’явився на його фейсбук-сторінці 19 березня – це був вірш з передової на фронті. Він завжди оспівував у своїй поезії українські звитяги, був популяризатором усього українського і говорив: “Україна – понад усе”.

Колектив Національного лісотехнічного університету України висловлює глибоке співчуття директору Технологічного фахового коледжу ДВНЗ “Національного лісотехнічного університету України” ДАДАКУ Роману Михайловичу, завідувачці бібліотеки коледжу Надії Зенонівні, дружині Ірині, дочкам Роксоляні й Катерині, братові Віктору з приводу тяжкої втрати – смерті сина, чоловіка, батька і брата.

Юрій Дадак загинув смертю ГЕРОЯ, який до останнього подиху боронив рідну українську землю.

Пам’ять про цю СВІТЛУ ЛЮДИНУ, вірного сина України житиме в серцях кожного, хто його знав, а також у його пронизливих і патріотичних віршах.

Колективом Національного лісотехнічного університету України на рахунок Військово-медичного клінічного центру Західного регіону (м. Львів) 15 березня 2022 року перераховано 425 тис. гривень для фінансової підтримки поранених воїнів та постраждалих внаслідок авіаційного удару по Міжнародному центру миротворчості та безпеки.

Співробітниками університету та Технологічного коледжу була надана допомога 24-ій окремій механізованій бригаді імені Короля Данила, а також воїнам з нашого колективу, які на передовій захищають від російського агресора нашу державу. Було зібрано і відправлено медикаменти, продукти харчування, здійснено грошові перекази на банківські рахунки для закупівлі необхідної військової амуніції.

Наші пожертви – внесок у велику Перемогу українського народу!

On the morning of February 24, 2022, the armed troops of the Russian Federation invaded on the territory of sovereign Ukraine in all directions. Since that time, Ukrainians have been under constant fire from Russian aircraft and missiles in the basements of their homes and bomb shelters around the clock. Peaceful Ukrainian cities and towns are being shelled, hospitals, schools, orphanages, residential areas are treacherously destroyed, women and children are dying.

The Ukrainian people defend their land, freedom and democratic values. This is our state, for which our ancestors fought for centuries, giving their lives, because for us the greatest value is a free, united and independent Ukraine!

Your sons are also dying here, more than 5,000 killed and wounded, hundreds of Russian soldiers are in captivity. You must know the truth! The truth that your political leadership is an aggressor and is killing innocent Ukrainian people, is sending your soldiers to death. The world community has united against the aggression of the Russian Federation, imposing sanctions that isolate you from the entire civilized world.

We call on you to publicly demonstrate your position against war, the destruction of moral principles and norms of international law, flagrant crimes against humanity. Do not be afraid to tell the truth, whatever it may be, to your family, colleagues, friends.

Listen to reason and conscience, put aside fear, go out on the streets, to rallies, protest, do not be silent! Remember that your silence is measured by the death of our and your children!

On February 28, 2022, a University Administration Council took place.

Issues related to the functioning of the university under the conditions of martial law in the country were considered.

Based on the results of consideration of the agenda of the University Administration Council, the following decisions were made:

Holidays have been announced from February 28 to March 19, 2022 for students who study in all programs, all levels of education and forms of university education, as well as students of preparatory courses, making appropriate changes to the educational schedule and learning process. Directors of the educational and research institutes and heads of structural departments should inform the participants of the educational process remotely about safety instructions and recommendations posted on the website of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine at the link.

A self-defense unit of the university has been formed to strengthen the protection of its facilities and property, as well as to prevent acts of sabotage. The university continues round-the-clock duty of management in accordance with the order of the rector of February 24, 2022 № 45.

Rector of the University, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Professor Volodymyr Zagorskyi offered to help our heroic soldiers financially by transferring the funds raised by the university staff to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Forestry technicians express their sincere gratitude to all foreign colleagues and friends for the letters of support and solidarity sent to the university, in which our friends express their concern and condemn the act of aggression of the Russian Federation. We continue to receive the letters of support.

Dear university community!

The Russian Federation launched a war against Ukraine, carrying out a full-scale invasion of our territory. Infrastructure facilities as well as residential buildings throughout our country were attacked.

The President signed a decree dated 24.02.2022 № 64/2022 “On the imposition of martial law in Ukraine”.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine are repelling the enemy. All Ukrainian people have mobilized and are desperately resisting the Russian aggressor.

The whole world supported Ukraine in its efforts to protect its independence and territorial integrity.

At this extremely important time, the university staff is faced with the task of acting in an organized and responsible manner, consolidating their efforts and maintaining order. I urge each of you to follow the official information channels and information on the university website.

Regarding the work of the university at this time:

1) The university has a round-the-clock headquarters for operational management of the university in martial law.

2) The structural subdivisions that ensure the viability of the university work as usual.

3) The educational process continues in accordance with the curriculum and schedule of classes in distance mode. The university administration will decide on the recommendation of the Ministry of Education and Science to stop the educational process in all educational institutions and announce a two-week vacation.

4) Entrance to the educational buildings of the university for employees - only on service certificates.

We believe in the victory of the Ukrainian army and the Ukrainian people in the confrontation with the Russian aggressor. We are on our land, defending our home. The truth is on our side, and therefore - VICTORY!
